Intracellular Signaling by Hydrogen Peroxide Via the Thiol Redoxstate

Levodopa (the active ingredient in Sinemet) has been found to be both beneficial and toxic in
various dosage amounts in laboratory animals (if a little of something is good, more is not
necessarily better). Dr Gerald Cohen of Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York) will continue his studies of the regulatory processes of several compounds with the goal of protecting surviving dopaminergic (DA) neurons under the chronic oxidative stress caused by PD. His studies will be done in fetal rat brain tissue cultures. A better understanding and control of these processes could prolong drug benefits to human patients.
