Dr. Michal K. Stachowiak and his SUNY, Buffalo colleagues used their PDF funding to create new versions of transgenic rodents and used a non-replicating virus to vector the corrective genes into the animals. They created the viral vector by deleteing an immediate early gene required for the virus to reproduce, thus rendering it apathogenic (harmless), and suggest that their results will assist in the evaluation of potential vectors for use in future human genetic therapy as a symptomatic treatment for PD patients.
